President Joe Biden began the process of allowing Medicare to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs in 1973 when he first became Senator. Finally overcoming the powerful Big Pharma lobby and 100% of Republicans who voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, Vice President Kamala Harris was the deciding vote to allow the federal government to negotiate the price of 10 of Medicare's costliest drugs.
Taxpayers currently spend more than fifty billion per year on these 10 drugs which include blood thinners and diabetes drugs. Medicare enrollees now pay no more than 35 dollars per month for their insulin prescriptions.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that Medicare drug pricing negotiations will save taxpayers 3.7 billion dollars the first year.
Vice President Kamala Harris intends to expand the negotiations of prescription drug costs in her Opportunity Economy to include all Americans, not just Medicare recipients.
Donald Trump will tear down the Affordable Care Act with no plan to replace it with anything, leaving 55 million Americans without healtlh insurance. Many of these people have pre-existing conditions and would not be able to get health coverage.
Trump would also end Medicare as we know it as well as the ability of the federal government to negotiate the price of prescription drugs. Trump has stated in the debate the with V.P. Harris that he has a "concept of a plan", which means he has no plan. During the Trump Adminstration Republicans attempted more than 60 times to overturn the Affordable Care Act.
Trump would destroy one of President Biden's greatest achievements that took him over 50 years to accomplish for no other reason than hatred and spite. Diabetic Americans will pay the price for another Trump term, as well as everyone with a pre-existing medical condition.
